David Buckland & Daro Montag
David Buckland, Unfold co-curator and Director of Cape Farewell, in conversation with Daro Montag, artist and Course Leader MA Art & Environment at University College Falmouth.
Cape Farewell expeditions have taken visual artists, writers, musicians, performers and architects to the High Arctic and more recently, to the Andes. Unfold is the resulting body of work, made in response to climate change. Created in 2001 by the artist David Buckland, Cape Farewell brings together artistic practitioners and scientists to stimulate and cross-fertilise each other’s work. These expeditions have given the artists a fuller understanding of the implications of human activity on the environment.
Unfold presents the work of twenty-five artists who have participated in Cape Farewell expeditions in 2007 and 2008 to the High Arctic, and in 2009 to the Andes. Each artist witnessed the dramatic and fragile environmental tipping points of climate change. Their innovative, independent and collective responses explore the physical, emotional and political dimensions of our changing world.
